Sling TV's Cloud DVR feature expands to dozens of new devices

Sling TV is expanding its Cloud DVR service to dozens of devices, DISH announced today. The updated line-up now includes Chrome browser, Chromecast , Xbox One , LG Smart TVs and 2016 and 2017 models of Samsung Smart TVs - which, in theory, should just about cover every device capable of running Sling TV. Like Cloud DVR on rival services like PlayStation Vue or YouTube TV , Sling TV's digital DVR allows you to record any number of shows simultaneously for later viewing. You might soon be able to use Skype and FaceTime in the UAE

According to Gulf News , Microsoft is in talks with TRA over licensing Skype which will allow the VoIP service to be legally and easily usable in the UAE. The newspaper also mentions another Arabic daily stating that TRA is in talks with Apple as well. VoIP services have long been illegal and actively blocked in the UAE and only recently has the TRA started issuing license to have them working in the country. At the moment, only two services are legally allowed which are BOTIM and C'ME. A consumer also needs to subscribe to an "Internet calling plan" in order to access these free VoIP...

Twitter Enters Streaming Deal With The Walt Disney Company

Twitter has entered into a streaming deal with The Walt Disney Company which will see the social media service stream live content from ESPN and other Disney-owned properties. The announcement was made yesterday via ESPN Media Zone and while it does include streaming of some live content, it also includes advertising which means uses will start to notice new ads on Twitter coming from ESPN and other networks owned by The Walt Disney Company.

Verizon Announces Oath Will Use Amazon's AWS Cloud Service

Verizon announced, through Amazon, that it will be using AWS as its primary cloud data partner for its OATH service. Amazon noted that Oath is going to expand its use of AWS by “continuing to migrate legacy workloads and building new cloud-based applications across its portfolio of dozens of media and technology brands”. Oath is a subsidiary of Verizon, which combines its Yahoo and AOL properties along with Go90. It's essentially Verizon's media arm. AWS already hosts a number of Oath's partners including AOL.com, HuffPost and Tumblr to name a few.
