It is no secret that right now, Apple and Qualcomm are not the best of friends. After a number of back and forth lawsuits related to patent infringement, royalties and the like, Apple decided to drop Qualcomm as a supplier. That is why all 2018 iPhone models are equipped exclusively with modem chips produced by Intel after both firms supplied Apple in 2016 and 2017. Qualcomm has accused Apple of stealing confidential information and trade secrets, and passing them on to rival chipmaker Intel, according to a court document filed Monday and reported by several media outlets.
For background, Qualcomm agreed that Apple could have access to its source code and tools for LTE modems, but with limitations. The company alleges that Apple wanted Intel to be able to improve its own chips so it could move away from using Qualcomm's.
