4 monthes ago   |   By Phandroid

There's no denying that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 is a powerhouse. It was announced over 7 months ago, but it remains a speedy and powerful chip. However, with the massive growth of mobile gaming, it seems that Qualcomm felt they needed to put something out before the new generation of the 800 series comes out.
The results of those efforts is the Snapdragon 855 Plus. It's pretty much identical to the standard Snapdragon 855 chip, but both the CPU and GPU have been overclocked for better performance in everything from gaming to regular tasks.
The overclock likely doesn't just come from...

Today Qualcomm announced a mid-cycle upgrade for the Snapdragon 855, called the "Snapdragon 855+." As a mid-cycle upgrade, there aren't huge changes here. It's still an eight-core, 7nm SoC, but the CPU and GPU are a bit faster thanks to higher clock speeds.
First up: the CPU, which sees the 855's "Prime" core clock speed get bumped from 2.84GHz to 2.96GHz in the Plus version. Remember the 855's "Prime" core layout was a bit of a new thing for Qualcomm. It was typical to split the eight CPU cores up into two sets of four cores. The "Big" core set got a more-advanced core design and...

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 Plus aims to take mobile gaming to the next level this year

4 monthes ago   |   By Phone Arena

Qualcomm typically unveils only one new high-end smartphone chipset a year, but even though we still expect a proper Snapdragon 855 sequel to go official in the next few months for use on premium mobile devices in 2020, the semiconductor giant has surprisingly taken the wraps off an early upgrade of its latest flagship today.
This is obviously not called Snapdragon 865 or even 860 or 856, which makes it pretty clear off the bat that we're not looking at life-altering performance improvements here. Nonetheless, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus promises to "raise gaming to the ...

Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 855 Plus: A Higher Bin SKU

4 monthes ago   |   By Anand Tech

Today Qualcomm is announcing a new small refresh of the Snapdragon 855 SoC: the new Snapdragon 855+. In the past Qualcomm had the habit of sometimes refreshing their flagship SoCs in the middle of their product life and give them a small performance boost, probably the most known chip fitting this pattern was the Snapdragon 821 from a few years ago. The S835 never got an upgrade, however the S845 last year did get a higher bin variant which ended up in a few vendor's products, including the renamed Snapdragon 850 product that featured the same specifications.
