Google Chrome no longer breaks Web games, but the fix won't last

Google is rolling back a recent Chrome browser update that inadvertently broke the audio in many HTML5-based Web games. But the browser maker says it plans to reimplement the feature in October, a move that has failed to satisfy many Web-based developers.
In a post on the Chromium developer forums , Product Manager John Pallett admits that Google "didn't do a good job of communicating the impact of the new autoplay policy to developers using the Web Audio API." Google rolled out Chrome 66 earlier this month and it brought new autoplay blocking functionality to the world's most popular web browser. The new autoplay rules blocked audio that played on its own as soon as the user opened a website, however, this change broke countless online games and apps that used autoplaying content for legitimate purposes. In response to their complaints, Google has announced that some of those changes have now been partially rolled back.

Google Rolls Back Chrome Update That Muted Some Web Games

Google's team working for Chrome has temporarily pulled back a feature introduced to the web browser last month as it was found out that the update also muted audio playback of several HTML 5 web games and art works as well. That feature was launched as part of the Chrome 66 update and it was meant to automatically disable sound on auto-playing videos by default. However, the feature is switched on by default and it was impossible for gamers to turn the audio on for an affected game unless players disable the feature in question.
