Intel to launch a 28-core monster CPU running at 5GHz later this year

2 monthes ago   |   By Tech Radar

You may have seen the Intel has just revealed its Core i7-8086K anniversary processor that's capable of boosting to 5GHz out of the box, but the company has a bigger CPU gun up its sleeve: a 28-core processor that reaches the same clock speed. Yes, Intel is readying a single socket processor bristling with 28-cores and apparently running at 5GHz across all transistors. With nearly 30-cores, it would certainly dwarf the six cores of the aforementioned 8086K. Intel revealed this CPU with a demo at Computex , and Anandtech reports that a system powered by the processor hit a score of 7,334 in...

Intel's 28-Core 5 GHz CPU: Coming in Q4

2 monthes ago   |   By Anand Tech

Alongside the launch of Intel's first 5 GHz processor, the 6-core Core i7-8086K, Intel today also showcased a 28-core single socket machine also running at 5 GHz. The system on display scored 7334 in Cinebench R15, and Gregory Bryant (SVP and GM of Intel Client Computing Group) explicitly stated that it would be coming in Q4 this year.
No other details were provided, however for it to exist in a current platform, this new processor would likely be in LGA2066 or LGA3647. Intel technically already makes 28-core monolithic designs in the Intel Xeon Scalable Platform with the Xeon Platinum...

The Intel Core i7-8086K hits 5GHz without overclocking

2 monthes ago   |   By Tech Radar

Rumors and leaks of the Intel Core i7-8086K spilled everywhere on the web so it was basically inevitable we would see it at Computex 2018 and now it's finally official. As previous reports suggested, the Intel Core i7-8068K the brand's most supped up Coffee Lake desktop processor to date. Intel calls the first-ever CPU to reach a 5.0GHz turbo frequency - and that's all without overclocking the chip. Otherwise the processor is outfitted with six-cores and 12-threads, plus a base clockspeed of 4.0GHz. Comparatively, that's 300GHz faster than the company's previous Coffee Lake flagship Intel...

From Intel's announcements today, two new unannounced codenames come to the front of the list: Whiskey Lake and Amber Lake. These are new U-series and Y-series processors respectively, and part of the 8 th generation family, however Intel is not stating which processor architecture is being used nor which manufacturing node.
The new processors are aimed at Intel's mobile processor lineup, and should feature in devices through the end of the year - Intel states they already have 70 designs for laptops and 2-in-1s from OEMs starting this fall. Aside from stating that the new parts will offer...

Intel Announces the Core i7-8086K: Coffee Lake at 5 GHz

2 monthes ago   |   By Anand Tech

As an homage to both Intel's 50 year company anniversary and the 40 year anniversary of the eponymous 8086 processor, today Intel surprised us all in announcing the Core i7-8086K: a limited edition processor that becomes its fastest ever.
For what was a funny request from David Schor from WikiChip over six months ago, with some faked screenshots appearing out of China in March, Intel has jumped us all and announced a new hyper-frequency version of its best performing mainstream Coffee Lake processor in the Core i7-8086K. This new processor, of which only 50,000 will be made, is a boost...
