Hands on: New YouTube Music puts audio first as recomendations front & center

Announced last week and rolling out as of this Tuesday, YouTube Music is Google's latest music streaming offering. While the mobile apps are visually similar to the previous iteration of the service, several new features have been added that reflect a rethought product. There are many smart additions, while the desktop client is a very welcome addition.

Google has confirmed that its revamped YouTube Music streaming service will eventually support key features of its Google Play Music app, including the ability for users to upload music files that may not exist in the service's streaming catalog.
Google announced an overhaul for YouTube Music last week alongside a price bump for its YouTube Red service. It then began a “soft” rollout of the app for select users on Tuesday.

Music video platform Vevo has confirmed that it will be shutting down all of its mobile apps and consumer-facing video hosting website, signaling a shift in its business to focus on YouTube. Apps affected include those for iOS and Android, but as of now "select" smart TV apps, potentially including Apple TV , will continue to run.
