Report: Microsoft is going to try to make a cheap Surface tablet. again

4 monthes ago   |   By Ars Technica

The Surface 3's non-LTE version.
Bloomberg reports that Microsoft is going to release a $400, 10-inch, Intel-powered Surface tablet in the second half of the year, in a renewed effort to take on the iPad.
This represents a return to a strategy the company has tried before. The original ARM Surface RT and Surface 2, and the Intel-equipped Surface 3, were all attempts to offer a low priced tablet operating in the same approximate market as the iPad. None saw any great success, however, and the Surface 3 was discontinued in late 2016. The winner in the Surface line has been the more expensive...

Microsoft is said to be working on a cheap Surface tablet to compete with the iPad

Not wanting to be outdone by Apple, Microsoft is reportedly planning to release a low-cost Surface tablet later this year. Said to measure 10 inches and with a price tag of around $400, the budget Surface will retain the familiar kickstand found on its Pro sibling, and will compete directly with the iPad. This is not a re-run of the Surface RT, as full-blown Windows will be supported. Microsoft's iPad killer? Budget Surface tablet said to be in the works

Microsoft is reportedly working on a more affordable Surface tablet to compete with Apple's affordable iPad. Bloomberg originally reported that the forthcoming lower-cost Surface tablet will feature a 10-inch screen, rounded corners and a $400 price tag to directly compete with the iPad designed for students. Overall, it seems as though this device is meant to be much more portable than the current 12.3-inch Surface Pro , and it's also rumored to be 20% lighter. As a consequence of the device's smaller screen size and weight, battery life will supposedly be four hours shorter than that of...
