Alphabet Inc's Waymo sought at least $1 billion in damages and a public apology from Uber Technologies Inc as conditions for settling its high-profile trade secret lawsuit against the ride-services company , sources familiar with the proposal told Reuters.
The Waymo self-driving car unit also asked that an independent monitor be appointed to ensure Uber does not use Waymo technology in the future, the sources said.

Alphabet's self-driving car company Waymo wants at least $1 billion -and a public apology-to end its trade secrets lawsuit against Uber, according to a report from Reuters this morning. The report cites sources "familiar with the proposal," and it doesn't specify the exact dollar amount or when the proposal was tendered. Waymo parent Alphabet also sought independent oversight to be sure that Uber doesn't use its technology.

Consumer tech spending is expected to increase only 1 percent to $96.8 billion in the fourth quarter, according to the Consumer Technology Association , the trade group that puts on the annual Consumer Electronics Show.
