Apple Watch 4 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch: battle of the great new smartwatches

1 month ago   |   By Tech Radar

Apple has just revealed its new Watch Series 4 alongside a trio of iPhones at a media event in California. The new smartwatch features a larger display, updated operating system and a suite of advanced health features. The new Apple Watch launches just weeks after Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch , which we recently named as TechRadar's best smartwatch in the world. With Google opting to remain on the sidelines for a while longer, derailing our hopes of a Pixel Watch launching imminently, the battle for smartwatch supremacy returns to a two horse race. To help you decide if your next...

Thoughts and Details on the Just-Announced iPhone Xs

Thoughts and Details on the Just-Announced iPhone Xs

1 month ago   |   By Sweet Setup

A screen and a camera. That's the gist of an iPhone. On the front, you've got a screen. And on the back you've got a camera lens or two.
And today, at Apple's “Gather Round” event, they announced the new iPhones Xs which, of course, have better screens and better cameras than before.
Yes, this is expected. But it's also welcomed! I've had every iPhone since the first one in 2007, and it's pretty much always been within arms reach (unless I leave it at home thanks to my Apple Watch with LTE, but that's a story for another time).
We all use our iPhones every day (perhaps a bit too much, but...

With its new iPhones, Apple drops not only the home button, but also the free headphone dongle

1 month ago   |   By Beta News

Yesterday's Apple event was mostly about heralding the arrival of the new - a trio of new iPhones, and a new Apple Watch - but it was also about losing a couple of things. None of the new handsets now feature home buttons, but this is not all that has gone. Although the price of the new batch of phones is high by pretty much anyone's standards, Apple has taken the decision to stop including a headphone dongle in the box. If you want to use traditional wired headphones with your new iPhone, you'll have to shell out on an...

No, new iPhones do NOT have a 120-hertz screen refresh rate

No, new iPhones do NOT have a 120-hertz screen refresh rate

1 month ago   |   By Phone Arena

If you watched Apple's big 2018 iPhone unveil last night, you might have heard a very interesting number floated around: a 120 hertz display rate.
This may not speak much to you, but if you are a gamer, you probably know the difference that a screen with a faster refresh rate can make.
Here is the thing, though: the new iPhones do NOT actually have a 120-hertz refresh rate on their displays. The only phone that has that feature is the Razor Phone, a phone - not coincidentally - aimed at gamers.
So what did Apple mean ...

Apple's AirPower vanishes into thin air, iPhone XS and XR wireless charging speeds unspecified

1 month ago   |   By Phone Arena

Three new iPhones, a heavily upgraded Apple Watch lineup, drastically redesigned iPad Pros, a lower-cost HomePod, some refreshed AirPods, over-ear Apple-branded headphones, and that long overdue AirPower wireless charging mat. Maybe our expectations were unreasonable for just one product announcement event.
Okay, we definitely expected too much to go down in the space of 90 minutes or so, which is typically how long these things last. But while the absence of a second-gen HomePod smart speaker is justifiable, it's hard to understand exactly what's happened with ...

Apple bumps up the price of battery replacements

1 month ago   |   By Beta News

If you're thinking of getting an iPhone battery replaced, now is the time to do it. The announcement of the new iPhone pricing may well have made you consider hanging on to your existing handset for a little while longer, but if the battery is starting to show signs of age, a replacement will cost you more from next year. This is not something that was announced on stage, but while Apple was busy talking about the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone Xr, the iPhone Battery & Power Repair page of its support website was updated with new...

The Remains of the Apple Event and What We Didn't Get

1 month ago   |   By iPad Insight

The iPhones XS, XS Max, and XR and the Apple Watch Series 4 weren't all that was announced today. There were just a few other morsels that Tim Cook briefly covered at the end of the event.
HomePod Love!
I was shocked when the HomePod was a complete no-show at WWDC. However, the features some of us expected it to get then were announced today. The HomePod will get the ability to do the following:
Ping your iPhone .
Search for songs by lyrics.
Set multiple timers .
Make phone calls through your iPhone.
Siri Shortcuts
Most of that list is just Apple getting the HomePod up to speed with the...

Apple Announces the 2018 iPhones: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, & iPhone XR

1 month ago   |   By Anand Tech

Today at their 2018 “Gather Round” iPhone & watch event, Apple announced the 2018 iPhone family. The latest and greatest iPhones build off of the industrial design and feature set first rolled out last year with the iPhone X, with all three phones announced today being iPhone X decedents in some form. Along with unifying the current-generation phones behind a single design, this latest update to the iPhone family also means that the iPhone X has essentially been split into three models, covering a range of prices and sizes.
The core of the new family is the iPhone XS, which like Apple...

The iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and Apple Watch 4 Hands-On

1 month ago   |   By Anand Tech

Today at Apples iPhone launch event , we saw the unveiling of three new iPhones as well as the Apple Watch Series 4. We go into more detail about the specifications of the new phones in our separate announcement article. Least to say, the new phones are a major upgrade in terms of their hardware capabilities, and also mark the across-the-board adoption of the iPhone X design for the entire iPhone product line.
I had a bit of hands-on time with the new phones at the event, and I was able to come away with a few impressions of the new models.

Apple Announces The Apple Watch 4: Fully Custom SiP

1 month ago   |   By Anand Tech

Today alongside the new iPhone XS, XS Max and the XR , Apple first introduced the new Apple Watch Series 4. The fourth generation of the watch sees a major revamp in its specifications and the most visible external design change to date.
Inside the new Apple Watch 4, we see Apple transition to a new SiP design with a new S4 SoC containing for the first time a custom Apple designed CPU and GPU. We don't have much information on the specifications here other than the new dual-CPU is 64-bit capable and is promised to perform twice as fast as it's predecessors - which used Arm's Cortex...
