Amazon's new Fire OS update brings picture-in-picture and more to Fire TV

6 monthes ago   |   By Tech Radar

Amazon barely said a word about it amid this week's Echo smart speaker announcements and squabbles with Google over YouTube videos , but there's a new version of the company's Android-based Fire OS headed to the Fire TV. The bulk of the details are relatively hidden in Amazon's developer documentation , where the company announced Fire OS 6 will be based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. Unfortunately, the company confirmed that at this time, the previous Fire TV models will not be updated to the new Fire OS 6. There's no mention of the Fire tablets though. Now that we've clarified that, let's see what new features Fire OS 6 is supposed to bring.

6 monthes ago   |   By Android Headlines

Amazon's Nougat-based Fire OS 6 is here and it's got PiP mode, that is, if you're running a Fire TV device that has Fire OS 6, as Amazon notes that this is one of the features that will be coming to Fire TV with this new version of the software. While Picture-in-Picture mode will be supported on Fire TV with Fire OS 6, these devices may not get multi-window as this wasn't a feature mentioned in Amazon's Developers blog post, despite multi-window being a feature that came along with Android Nougat when Google launched it.
