The final names of the iPhones revealed. Bonus: larger display Apple Watch to launch today

6 days ago   |   By Phone Arena

For the most of 2018, we've been wondering: “How is Apple going to name the next iteration of the iPhone?”. The company pulled a weird stunt last year, when it announced an iPhone 8 and an iPhone X , effectively jumbling up the continuity.
It seems we weren't the only ones that were puzzled as to what names Apple might pick for its next phones. According to rumors, the guys at Cupertino were scrambling to pin the final product names, too, as they had written themselves into a corner with last year's decision.
Soon after those rumors, we got the first leaks claiming ...

Kuo: 2019 iPhones Unlikely to Feature Time-of-Flight 3D Sensor in Rear Camera

6 days ago   |   By Mac Rumors

Looking ahead to next year, Ming-Chi Kuo believes that contrary to some analysts' expectations, Apple is unlikely to integrate a time-of-flight depth sensing system in the rear camera of its 2019 iPhones.
Reports of Apple including rear-facing 3D sensing capabilities in its 2019 iPhone lineup first began appearing last year. At the time, Apple was said to be evaluating a ToF approach, which is different from the one it currently uses in the TrueDepth sensor system on the front of the iPhone X.
TrueDepth relies on a structured-light technique that projects a pattern of 30,000 laser dots...

No TrueDepth Cameras For 2019's iPhones

6 days ago   |   By Ubergizmo

One of the features introduced in last year's iPhone X is the TrueDepth camera system which is used by Face ID to authenticate users amongst other things. We have also seen how some companies have taken advantage of its more advanced sensors for augmented reality, which has some wondering if the system could find its way to the rear-facing camera as well. Unfortunately if you were hoping to see it arrive in 2019's iPhones, you might be disappointed to learn that might not happen. This is according to notable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who claims that the TrueDepth system might not make it to the...

The iPhone 6 managed to sell 60 million units in six months, and in less than a year managed to ship 90 million units. According to data from Counterpoint Research , the iPhone X seems to be lagging behind. Apple has yet to officially disclose how many units of the iPhone X that they have sold to date, but based on Counterpoint Research's data, we are looking at around 63 million units so far. It's definitely no small figure to scoff at, but like we said, the iPhone 6 took half a year to hit that mark...

IPhone XS leaked photos seemingly show the phone in the flesh

6 days ago   |   By Tech Radar

The iPhone XS is launching just hours from now, but while we've seen a handful of renders and pictures of components, we hadn't seen any leaked photos of the phone in the wild. That is, until now. Posted to Weibo and spotted by The Inquirer , the images show a phone that looks a lot like the iPhone X , complete with a notch at the top, barely any bezel otherwise and slightly curvy edges. The phone looks so similar to last year's model that we can't be certain that's not what we're looking at, but that's no surprise as the iPhone XS is rumored to look more or less identical to the iPhone X...
