HMD Global Debuts Nokia's First Pair of Truly Wireless Earbuds

11 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

In short: Alongside the announcement of the Nokia 7.1 today, HMD Global also unveiled the Nokia True Wireless Earbuds. These are very small earbuds, which will get you about three and a half hours of playback, or around four hours of talk time. Like most truly wireless earbuds, the case is also a charging case, which can get you around an additional 12 hours (HMD Global touts about three recharges from the carrying case here). The carrying case is actually pretty small, and is shaped like lipstick. This makes it easier to toss in your bag and take on the road with you.

HMD unveils Nokia True Wireless and Pro Wireless earphones while keeping jack around

Try as you might, you simply cannot fault HMD Global for hesitating to release a truly high-end Nokia-branded smartphone. Not when the mid-range Nokia 7.1 provides such great bang for your buck, with no less than four other phones looking at swift Android 9 Pie updates after the 7 Plus has already made the jump.
HMD is also getting in the wireless headphones business today, unveiling not one, but two different cable-free audio products. That's despite the fact the Nokia 7.1 still comes with a traditional 3.5 mm jack, mind you.
Basically, instead of forcing you to pick up either ...

Nokia 7.1: The Good, Bad & Ugly

11 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

HMD Global has just taken the wraps off of its newest smartphone, the Nokia 7.1. This marks the highest-end Nokia smartphone to make its way to the US, so far. But is it worth the $349 price tag? Is it enough to compete with the other competitive, mid-range smartphones like the Moto G6, Honor 8X, and even some that are a bit more expensive like the OnePlus 6. Well, there is a lot to like about the Nokia 7.1, and as always, this is not a perfect smartphone so there are some things to dislike here. So let's go over the good, the bad and the ugly of the new Nokia 7.1.

Hands On With HMD Global's Nokia 7.1 Android One Smartphone

11 days ago   |   By Android Headlines

HMD Global introduced the latest Nokia-branded smartphone to its lineup, the Nokia 7.1. On paper, this is a mid-range device, there are no bones about that. Sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. But when you hold the Nokia 7.1 in your hand, it feels really premium. That's because the Nokia 7.1 sports a 2.5D curved glass backside and a metal frame. In a typical 2018 fashion, it also has a notch. But the cutout is pretty small, essentially only there for the earpiece and the front-facing camera.
On the software front, the Nokia 7.1 is an Android One...

HMD's latest Nokia smartphone-one that's actually coming to the US-is the Nokia 7.1. For $349 you get a mid-range phone with a few flagship-style touches that you may or may not be a fan of, like a notched display and a glass back.
First up, the specs. For $349 you're getting a Snapdragon 636 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 3060mAh battery. The display is a 5.8-inch, 2280×1080 LCD with a 19:9 aspect ratio, and, like many smartphones this year, there's a big notch cut out of the top of the screen to make room for the 8MP front camera and earpiece. Unlike many smartphones...

After all, the Snapdragon 636 is considered by many to be the rightful spiritual successor to the Snapdragon 625 chipset, a piece of silicon that has been the undisputed king of battery efficiency for a while now. There's a reason why Chinese giant Xiaomi used it in more than a dozen of its own devices. The Snapdragon 636 offers ample performance for rudimentary ...

Nokia just announced the latest entry in its long-running series of Android One devices, the Nokia 7.1. This one is a slightly more decked-out mid-ranger than we are used to, boasting a set of hardware and software features that are not normally associated with devices in the same range.
One of these is definitely the HDR10-compliant 5.84-inch display, which is employing both Gorilla Glass 3 and, yes, a notch. While it's certainly an LCD endeavor, Nokia says the display can potentially really bright and be perfectly legible even under the exceptional brightness of broad daylight...
