Qualcomm just unveiled the new leader of its mid-tier, 600-series system on a chip - the Snapdragon 670.
The new chip will have eight Kryo 360 cores, six of them clocked at 1.7GHz and two at 2.0GHz. The performance of the CPU will be further boosted by Qualcomm's Artificial Intelligence Engine, which aids functions like face unlock and bokeh effect on photos made with a single camera. According to the manufacturer, the overall package will offer “twice the performance” of its Snapdragon 660 chip.

Today Qualcomm is announcing a new entry in the 600-series mid-range line-up. In a surprise move, the new Snapdragon 670 is a direct successor to the Snapdragon 660, and is intended to fill the gap between the 600-series and the newly introduced Snapdragon 710 .

Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 670, its mid-range successor to the Snapdragon 660 (found in the likes of the Nokia 7 Plus and BlackBerry Key2 ), and it sounds like an improvement in a lot of ways. The chipset has eight cores, two of which are performance cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz, while the other six are efficiency cores, clocked at up to 1.7GHz.
