The Montblanc Summit was sure handsome, but that crazy price tag ruined its mass appeal
After two and a half years of waiting around for Android Wear smartwatches to take off, Qualcomm has finally unveiled a new high-end chipset for Wear OS devices. The timing of the Snapdragon Wear 3100 announcement sure doesn't feel coincidental, as the Apple Watch Series 4 launch is right around the corner, but at the same time, Google still doesn't seem to be taking this endeavor very seriously.

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon Wear 3100 pretty recently, and it's replacing the two-year-old Snapdragon Wear 2100 that was launched back in February of 2016. The chipset is said to make the Wear OS experience much better. That is because Qualcomm worked hand-in-hand with Google to perfect this chipset and make sure it is the best possible chipset for Wear OS, which is needed because there aren't many choices for wearable chipsets like there are for smartphones. Not only does it improve on battery life, but it also improves performance and so much more.
Starting with the co-processor...

Qualcomm had confirmed earlier this year that it's going to launch a new chip for Wear OS smartwatches and it has done just that today. The Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform for smartwatches is based on a new ultra-low power system architecture that's aimed at extending battery life while delivering new, personalized experiences. The focus on battery longevity makes sense as the battery life is one of the key selling points for a smartwatch.
The new smartwatch chip from Qualcomm comes after two and a half years. Android smartwatches have been without next-generation silicon for an...

Qualcomm has launched a new chipset dedicated to the wearable market, and it's set to transform smartwatches as we know them. Dubbed the Snapdragon 3100, this is Qualcomm's third generation wearable chip and improvements over the Snapdragon 2100 are focused in three core areas; fashion, sports and power reduction. The chip is based on a brand new ultra-low power architecture, with a large quad-core A7 processor providing a fast, slick user experience when you're interacting with a watch, while a new ultra-low power co-processor takes over the running when the device is idle. This tiny...

In sync with its latest teaser, Qualcomm just unveiled a brand new chip, tailor-made for smartwatches, promising to land the next era for Wear OS devices. You guessed it, the long-awaited sequel for the Snapdragon Wear 2100 platform is here, dubbed Wear 3100.
Qualcomm's first shot at wearable chippery came in the form of a repackaged Snapdragon 400 which had neither the performance nor the battery life needed for the task. Then came Snapdragon Wear 2100. It was 30% smaller than the Snapdragon 400, enabling thinner designs, and used less power, too, plus it brought about 4G LTE ...

After plenty of teases, Qualcomm has finally taken the wraps off of its latest wearable chipset, the Snapdragon Wear 3100. This is the successor to the Snapdragon Wear 2100 which was announced back in February of 2016 and is a pretty significant upgrade for Qualcomm and Wear OS smartwatches that will be using it moving forward. Potential customers won't need to wait long for the new chipset to arrive, as Qualcomm has two partners that will be releasing smartwatches powered by Snapdragon Wear 3100 before the end of the year.
