Google Pixel 3 software makes display corners rounder in the name of symmetry

Much like the Pixel 3 XL, the regular Google Pixel 3 makes use of a new display that has been praised significantly due to its improvements over last year's Pixel 2 panel. However, from the looks of things, Google isn't entirely happy with it.
As spotted by a Reddit user, it appears Google is using software trickery to make the Pixel 3's display corners slightly rounder. This appears to help the panel better match the shape of the smartphone itself and also brings it in line with Google's latest Material Design guidelines. Thus, ...

By now, you're probably well aware that the Pixel 3 is available for purchase from Google, Verizon and Best Buy here in the US and dozens of other retailers across the globe. We were not given a review unit by Google, so we had to go out and buy ours on launch day. We actually had a few issues getting the model we wanted. The Verizon store we went to only had the Google Pixel XL in black and the Best Buy we purchased our Pixel 3 from only has the Not Pink color option. They were kind enough to have a Black Pixel 3 sent over from another Best Buy .

Google Pixel 3 XL plays HDR video in 1440p at 60fps

There are a few things you'll find on the Google Pixel 3 XL that you won't see on the Pixel 3, Pixel 2 or the Pixel 2 XL. Besides the notch, of course. One is 1440p HDR video playback at 60 frames per second. You won't find this on the Pixel 3 or Pixel 2 because both sport a 1080p screen, and it is not offered on last year's Pixel 2 XL. All of these phones max out HDR playback at 1080p60fps.
