Samsung Becomes Largest U.S. Patent Holder, Ends IBM's Lead

Samsung is now the largest patent holder in the United States, boasting a portfolio of 75,596 valid patents in the country as of January 1. According to global patent journal IAM, the milestone can largely be attributed to Samsung's high level of involvement in many technical areas where it actively seeks to acquire patent rights. IBM held the title of the largest U.S. patent holder for 25 consecutive years until 2018, as per the same source.
