Apple struggles in India where fewer than a million iPhones were sold in the first half of 2018

Apple CEO Tim Cook felt strongly that India would be the next China for Apple. The world's largest smartphone market, China is Apple's second largest market after the U.S. But when Chinese sales started to lag, Apple took a long hard look at India; the latter is now the second largest smartphone market globally. Because the Indian economy isn't rewarding most Indians, Apple has focused on selling older models in the country. The Apple iPhone SE and Apple iPhone 6s are manufactured in India as a way to keep consumers there from having to pay import taxes and customs on these two models.

India has been a tough market for Apple to crack. It has even started manufacturing certain models in the country so that they not be hit by import taxes and can thus be competitively priced in the market. The strategy might not have paid dividends so far because a new report claims that the company has sold fewer than 1 million iPhones in India in the first half of this year.

Routine traffic stop goes awry; man gets 180 day jail sentence for not unlocking his iPhones

What started as a routine traffic stop landed William Montanez in jail over his refusal to unlock a pair of Apple iPhone handsets. It all started back on June 21st when a cop gave Montanez a ticket for for not properly yielding while pulling out of a driveway. Deputy Kalin Hall, who works with a street group that conducts narcotics investigations, asked the driver if he would consent to having his car searched. For a while, expectations were high that this year's 6.1-inch “budget” iPhone would feature a design that is a bit less attractive than its more premium siblings, the iPhone X 2018 and the iPhone X Plus. If recent reports are any indication, however, it appears that Apple might be looking to implement the exact same design, bezels and all, to all of its iPhone offerings this year, including the 6.1-inch iPhone.
